The seeds of Dragonfly were sown, when Youth (artist and producer extraordinaire) first ventured to Goa in the early 1990s and was mesmerised by the festival atmosphere, parties on the beach and idyllic surroundings. People from around the globe were coming together and witnessing a universal experience to a multi coloured hybrid of trance and techno.
Youth's life long interest in the power and possibilities of tribal and hypnotic rhythms coupled with his love of the burgeoning dance movement was the catalyst which inspired him to set up the legendary Butterfly Studios in Brixton (London) and consequently Dragonfly Records, the world's first psychedelic trance record label. The ethos of Dragonfly was to create an environment for all the untapped emerging global talent, enabling their music to be heard by a worldwide audience without compromising or diluting their creativity.
Consequently Dragonfly was born and over the next eight years built a reputation second to none. The Dragonfly back catalogue (including the flourishing sister labels Liquid Sound Design and Kamaflage) consists of many classic albums that chart the history of the trance scene from it's underground roots to its global popularity today.
In 1998, Youth decided to set up LSD - Liquid Sound Design, as Dragonfly's sister label, specialising in chilled out soundscapes, and mellow grooves. LSD was a natural progression for Dragonfly, keen to create an outlet for more experimental and down-tempo music as well as satisfying the demand for the post-club chill out sounds. Already ten albums in, their mellow swirling downtempo grooves have struck a chord with listeners worldwide, and the LSD sound has proved to be the perfect companion for rolling a reefer and zoning out. The newest addition to the Dragonfly family is the young upstart Kamaflage, home to an ever bourgeoning roster of dark twisted house and breaks. If Dragonfly is about standing in a field surrounded by your peers with a huge smile on your face, Kamaflage is about sweating your socks off in a dirty warehouse with your head stuck in the bass bin.
